For this Meet the People series, this time around, I sat down with Yevhenii Smirnov, our newest Mobile Developer. He is a Ukraine descendent but lived most of his life in Portugal (he's actually a Portuguese citizen) and joined our team this year after living in Switzerland for the last few years.
He is a driven guy with a passion for software development and is finally taking that passion to the next level after spending most of his working life in the hospitality business. But let's get to know a bit more about Yevhenii, whose work you will encounter whenever you use our apps or SDK.
When did your interest in the mobile marketing industry begin?
My interest increased after a talk with my old friend Helder, who is the Head of Mobile at Notificare. At that time I was improving my React skills and didn't have any knowledge of mobile technologies.
From our conversation, I believed I had an idea of what Notificare is about, but that was far from the reality. After exploring Notificare products, trying them myself, and hearing about future plans, I had no other path in my mind than pursuing a career as a mobile developer and become part of the team.
Where do you see mobile headed in the next 5 years?
Watching the progress over the last 5 years gives me a clear vision of how fast mobile technologies are evolving. I believe it keep evolving at the same pace, but probably with more focus on user experience.
With the number of applications and companies on the market, user experience is one of the main differentiator for consumers and companies will focus more on it.
Favourite part about working at Notificare?
Definitely the team. Working with people with such a big experience where you see an ocean of knowledge to swim in and have great daily support, is, honestly, all you need.
And I can't fail to mention our video conferences where we have a drink and normal friendship conversations.
What are you most proud of in your career thus far?
Not much so far, as I'm recently in the mobile world, but I'm definitely proud of the progress I made to date.
When not working, where can we find you?
Since my journey in Switzerland where I learned how to snowboard, it became my winter hobby. I also love board games and started my own collection. Apart from that, meeting with friends, spending time with my girlfriend, going to the beach or workout is always well spent time.
How has your career been shaped by working remotely?
As my first remote work, I'm just loving it. The amount of time I can save for myself, the focus I have working in a quiet environment, and flexibility are everything.
